Hello all. I am new to this forum and have been looking for others in my surrounding area who keep pure species of rainbowfish. not LFS type mind you. i have been breeding rainbowfish for some years now and recently acquired and currently breeding some F-1 M.Praecox collected from a well known figure in the hobby last year in Pagai.an island off the coast of Indonesia. You won't see praecox like these in any store in the country..i currently have 7 species all you won't find around here and only a few in this country who have them.I plan on acquiring more and upping my fish room to house even more rare species .here's a pic of one of my male praecox from pagai.

also 2 male M. Kamaka from my breeding stock.

and Pseudomugil gertrudae (jardin river)

I signed up to see if there are others around who are as serious about rainbowfish as i am.
also if there is anyone else around who keeps rare species of bows.. feel free to email me...
thanks for looking!.   ~Mark

Hi Mark,

Great looking fish and pics.  I love the bright blue on the Praecox and you never see that much yellow on the gertrudae in the stores.

I do remember seeing some species of the blue eyes come through our breeding program before, but I can't remember who brought them.  I've kept some pseudomugils in the past but they never seem to do well for me.  If you're in the area why don't you come on down to one of our meetings - we have one coming up on Aug 19th (I'll be posting that on the front page soon).  I'm sure you'll find someone who will talk Rainbows with you.  I'd love to meet you but I'm going to be out of state.

Thanks Huy, yes their an amazing species no doubt.i'm pretty sure you won't find this type of p.gertrudae in any shops though. typical of most P.gertrudae, fairly easy to keep in breed and not many requirements.cooler temps seem to be a key in longevity with them though.and they don't need salt if thats what you may have heard.. Grin
well i missed the get together but I'm sure i will be able to find a day i can get down there to mingle and all.
throwing this up to share with you all.My Kamaka in the breeding tank.i think they were more interested in sparring than mating that day!  enjoy!

Hello!
Your post was just what the doctor ordered.

I've been looking for some quality rainbows for months now. I didn't want to order them sight unseen or buy them from pet shops because you never know what you will get.
I am particularly interested in the Pseudomugil species and was wondering if you have any for sale?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Kiva. Qiuck note first.I doubt these are the jardine river variety i mentioned them to be.there still is alot of mis info on as to their original collection location. something i have been working on with more experienced bow people.more so i hope mr.Heiko Bleher will help with this.
I will have some available soon.I have been working on getting the next generation going and they are just about ready to start throwing eggs. i had a high number of females to males ratio (25-9) so this should be a very productive colony.more so these new males are really much more colorful and have better extensions and markings  than the adults males i obtained.. heres a pic of a couple of the males
offspring male is a 3rd size of parent mind you.
If your really into bows you should check out  rainbow-fish.org.I'm usually there alot and there are many with great quality bows and rare.. Smiley

I also have some juvenile melanotaenia kamaka available. most are accounted for but enough for a nice breeding colony of your own. still a rare bow to find and not a large species.about 2in max size

Well it has been awhile since i came on and during the time i have been acquiring new species of rainbows not yet seen here on the eastcoast and very few across the US have them. with the amount of breeding i do and lack of interest in bows out our way i have taken to Aquabid and the rainbow-fish.org forums to find people with great interest in pure stock bows.. my bows are not lfs and come from the most respected rainbowfish collectors known in the states..

Lets start with these guys and gals.
Pseudomugil cf. gertrudae AruII
collected by Heiko Bleher himself from the Aru Islands and brough back to the states by G.Lange recently from a well known breeder in Germany

the most beautiful gertrudaea to date hands down.

Next~ Melanotaenia kiunga (undescribed yet species)
Another larger bow species similar to trifa's and collected by Mr. Bleher.

Next~ Melanotaenia pygmaea
A beautiful smaller species from Australia.

Last~Chilatherina alleni
Only entered the states last year for the very first time on US soil..
Very few have these here..

Now just a few shots of my Golden type gertrudaea breeding group.

Hope you enjoyed the pics and Info update..
