Our Speaker this month is Paige MacGregor of LibertyLand Axolotl Rescue.
Paige will discuss the amazing axolotl—the only salamander that remains fully aquatic throughout its lifetime. Paige’s talk will touch on the regenerative capabilities of the axolotl, their native habitat and engendered status in the wild, some of the conservation efforts taking place in Mexico, the basic care requirements of captive axolotls and some of the health issues commonly seen with axolotls in the rescue space.
Paige is an amateur herpetologist and animal lover. Currently, she works for LibertyLand Axolotl Rescue, a volunteer-based group focused on educating the public about axolotls and proper axolotl care, and providing care and rehabilitation to axolotls in need. In her free time, Paige is studying to become a Master Herpetologist through a nonprofit organization called The Amphibian Foundation, which offers basic courses on husbandry and captive management. Paige lives in Acushnet, MA with her partner, David, and their family, which includes two cats, Boo and Bear; their dog, Penny; a red eared slider turtle named Soup; five species of newts (Alpine, Spanish ribbed, yellow spotted, Chinese fire belly, and Eastern); two species of salamanders; two hermit crabs, Hermes and Aphrodite; 11 tropical fish tanks with a wide range of species, including several C.A.R.E.S. species; and of course their axolotls, Chonk, Shrimp, and Skeleton Key, as well as anywhere from 5-35 surrendered and rehabbing axolotls at any one time.

We are a small volunteer organization based in MA that operates out of MA, RI, NH and CT. we are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of axolotls. To date, LibertyLand has helped rehabilitate and rehome more than 500 axolotls in need.
When an owner finds that they can no longer care for their axolotl, or if they find themselves with an accidental clutch of babies, LibertyLand is there to help find new forever homes for each of them.
At LibertyLand, we’re passionate about helping educate the public about proper axolotl care. We actively combat the misconception that these animals are difficult to keep, and offer advice on how to help keep them as healthy and happy as possible.

We also have our usual meeting activities. You may bring any fish or plants you are submitting for the BAP or HAP for auction. You may also bring up to 3 lots for a Buck-a-Bag auction. We plan to have refreshments, a raffle and a short business meeting.
The address of our Wednesday meeting is 19 Mohawk Drive, Riverside, Rhode Island. Mohawk Drive is directly off of Rt 114, the Wampanoag Trail in Riverside. Route 114 is a divided road at the entrance to Mohawk Road. If you are coming from the North you need to go past it to the next turnaround, which is on the left just past the "Welcome to Barrington" Sign. After you turn around, Mohawk Road will be on your right a short distance past the "Anchor Bay Assisted Living" sign. There is a Blue and White sign at the entry of Mohawk Road for the Riverside Sportsmans Association. The building is at the end of the road.
